2016 marks the first year in which the IRS will actually complete its play or pay penalty assessment process for the inaugural 2015 assessment year. By this time, employers will have already reported to the IRS information about coverage offered to its ACA-FT employees, and the IRS will have gathered additional information from employees’ 1040 tax returns as well as the exchanges.
